Polo Fiasco v. Dinosaurs

Not much to report. The three teams that were expected to win, won. Dinos put up a heck of a fight, but the shots were finding the BB.
The police came and searched a bunch of us while we were hanging out, looking for knives. That was exciting and results in oh-so-many laughs. We also had some visitors from Oxford. Not much else to say except polo rocks.

Rotten Apples vs Massive Cogs
A rough introduction to the league for Massive Cogs. Rotten Apples, in their usual unpredictable controlled chaos, made life difficult for the new league team. Massive Cogs found it hard to keep control of the ball, or even get into the Apple’s D. Although they had a few great rushes on goal, RA were usually able to catch up and cut them out. Massive Cog’s one goal came from RA leaving the goal untended. Final scores were 5-0, 5-1, 5-0.
Polo Fiasco vs Massive Cogs
Massive Cogs continued their lessons in the next fixture, against Polo Fiasco. Although the games were closer (5-2, 5-1, 5-2), the crowd was louder, and the opposition’s average age much lower, MC’s couldn’t pull it together. Their lack of team time on the court showed, but they gave it their all. PF were passing well and able to get the ball off the MCs before they were able to get it up to the goal most of the time. However, MCs got a few great shots off, resulting in some good goals. Most of the goals scored went to Tony and Josh, with Adrienne scoring two goals both times she came out of goal.
What’s Our Name Again (WONA) are now the East London Knights (ELKs)!

Three Beards, One Cup - designed by Adrienne
The rather creative bunch that makes up a large portion of the London bike polo scene have come up with a number of great polo team logos. So far, 11 12 13 out of 17 teams have designed something.
This post is just to highlight these logos (for those who haven’t ventured into all the team pages) while also encouraging the last few teams to get working.
Check out some more below.

Great day yesterday. The throw-in tourney was a great success, with great weather, and great tacos. Everyone seemed to have a good time (although there were a few close calls – Todd almost got an eye-implant, and Brian will forever know the strength of Rik and his mallet of Ti!).
From Tomasito of Cosmic (the winners of the stolen trophy):
Lovely tacos, great polo, and the loveliest trophy in polo safely returned. 127 quid raised for Greenpeace -thanks so much everyone, especially Brian for the tacos and some sweet passing and scoring with Pique on our way to victory! Great day.
Some pics of the day from Will below the fold.

From Mr. Andy Lockett:
La Schmoove v Spinal Tap Out
Game 1 -
7 minutes played. 5-0 to La Schmoove. Spinal Tap Out get grannied. Welcome to the league.
Game 2 -
A whole different story – the Westies turn up for this one and La Schmoove have switched off, thinking they’ll have it easy.
Play is end to end with a few decent shots from both sides and some good goalkeeping from sub Bra(d)ley.
First goal comes after 5 minutes and La Schmoove are 1 nil down, having lost the fluency they showed in game one.
Spinal Tap Out can’t keep it up though and La Schmoove finally find some form and take the lead, adding the extra goals to take it to 4-1.
2 minutes left and it’s game over, La Schmoove’s persistence and experience pay off but they’ve had to work for it.
Game 3 -
As you were. Spinal Tap Out get grannied again.
First matches for two new teams to the league – the North-East’s Polo Fiasco vs West London’s Polonium 210.
The first game was the quickest, with a 5-0 result for Polo Fiasco after, not much more than, 5 minutes. Only drama to be seen was Tanya’s pedal falling out of her cranks, resulting in a time out after the fourth goal, and the use of Big daddy Wayne’s bike for the rest of the fixture.
The second game was the more exciting of the three, and the closest. Josh got a puncture two minutes in, allowing Polonium to get their first goal (and Josh to take a time out to repair). The scores remained close for the rest of the match, going 1-1, 1-2, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4, and finally 3-5 with Polo Fiasco finishing up their second win.
After the scare of the second match, Polo Fiasco picked their game up again, with a 5-1 win (and this time with no time outs).
Good efforts from everyone involved.
