From Lebowski:
Game 1.
Elks seem pretty confident about this fixture. So confident that Jono started celebrating at lunch time and was quite drunk by the 7.00pm start time. 3, 2, 1 polo and Jono and Ali are both quick off the break and get to the ball well before Polonium. Jono, however, is quite drunk and passes straight to Tom who finds himself with the ball heading towards the Elks goal. Tom, not expecting this turn of events, panicks and mis-hits a shot towards goal. The ball rolls slowly towards Ray in goal, who somehow manages to completely miss the ball and watches it roll beneath his BB. 30 seconds in, Polonium 1 – 0.
Elks regroup and Jono and Ali move forward with purpose. Jono scores quickly at 1.30′ and again at 2.00′. The boys decide to allow Ray out of goal, and the pace of the game slows down slightly, but Elks are still well in control of the ball and the game. Ray scores at 6.30′ then two quick goals by Ali and Jono at 7.15′ and 8.10′ finishes off the game.
Final Score 5 – 1

From Robb Slamm:
Game 1
Both teams start the game with real vigour, lots of movement about the court, Bill is doing well at holding the ball close.
An unlucky defensive error by Adrienne lets Bill in at 1:35 to get 3 Beards’ first goal.
2:55, a thunderous slapshot from Snoops hits Tony’s wheel making a satisfying noise.
3:40, a beautiful reverse pass from Josh puts Tony through to the 3 Beards goal but he was unable to finish
4:30, a mallet hack from Bill fails to upset Adrienne
4:50, Snoops slips and crashes on the slick ground which allows Fiasco to break and score their first goal.
3 Beards look to settle into the game with good possessional play and excellent passing.

From JonoMarshall:
Game 1
Both teams start the fixture with a strong bias placed on passing, this results in an even amount of attacking play from both teams with the ball hardly ever hitting a sidewall or getting stuck in a corner, lovely. Cosmic start to pass longer and faster than Black Rebel, resulting in BR being left too committed… Matt breaks to be one-on-one with Roxy and scores, 1-0.
The game starts to become more dominated by Cosmic who are playing a very considered and reserved game. Tom takes advantage of a long pass and scores, 2-0, Matt follows this 20 seconds later, breaking from an intercepted pass, another goal, it’s 3-0.
The game stagnates for a few minutes, BR are struggling to find space in Cosmic’s half and are often left holding the ball outside of the D waiting for a pass/play to open up. Cosmic hold back and break on forced errors, Todd breaking and getting a goal halfway through the fixture, 4-0.
Black Rebel have had a failed few shots on goal and look eager to get on the scoresheet, there’s a bit of messy play in Cosmic’s half after Dan holds the ball, both Todd, Tom and BR’s Dan footdown and are out of the play, Cosmic Matt grabs the ball and guards it in his own half while a frustrated Roxy shouts to BR’s Matt to get the ball and score. BR’s Matt goes to challenge for the ball as the other players come back into the game, but Cosmic Matt manages to wrong ‘im and almost gets the final goal, Roxy stays strong in goal and dismisses the speedy shot.
BR keep attacking and have some nice hook-ups between Dan and Matt, but fail to score. Cosmic re-group after another attack from BR leaves Dan needing to tap back in. Tom goes straight to BR’s goal and ends the first game at 10.30, 5-0. BR look disappointed.

From Emilié:
A pre-game talk clarified the rules, specifically the back through the goal rule, hopefully removing any possibility of conflict later on.
Game 1.
Play opens with a fast joust, Zombie quickly take control, with deft use of his team mates Mike gives malice the run around and opens the scoring at 0.59
Malice quickly regain possession and composure, countering with a goal at 1.17(Iain).
A clean games ensues, vidal stacks in the same corner as the Malice/Black Rebel game. Both teams are playing at an even level, the display of passing/checking and interceptions is impressive to watch, surpassed only by ZU’s goal keeping.
At 10.39 Mike sinks another ball into Malice’s goal.

From Sarah:
Nov 4th, Newington SE1.
The first game got off to a very quick start with Aidan scoring from the charge in under 10”, followed by another goal at 40” and Brendan scoring a 3rd in under two minutes. A lot of activity in the Sparkle goal ensured a 4th goal to BAD – an own goal by Sparkle from a Dave assist! Aidan finished off the game at 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
The second game saw Sparkle playing well defensively. Aside from Brendan’s goal in the 1st minute, they held off BAD’s relentless attack with some good saves, until two goals from Dave in the 5th minute. Aidan set up a lovely ball for Dave who powered through an awesome goal at 5.5 minutes, and then Dave scoring again at 6’22″.
Brendan got the first two goals at 1’32” and 2’10” in the third game. Similarly to the second, Sparkle Motion were saving many of BAD’s shots. At 2’50” Dave, after hitting the cones & wheels a few times finally put the ball through at a great angle. Aidan scoring at 3’15” and Brendan at 4’40” ensured BAD another 15-0 victory. Sparkle Motion had a couple of good breaks by James in this game and were unlucky not to convert them.

I have reffed a few games in the league, and I thought it might be useful to flag up a few rules that people seems to be unclear on relating to restarts after goals.
1. if you have put your foot-down immediately before a goal is scored, you do not have to tap-out in the centre.
2. after a goal, even though all 3 players have to return to their d, the scored-on team can cross the half-way line after 2 of the scoring team have gone back to their d.
3. Any member of the scoring team can cross the centre line as soon as they have been back to their d, the opposition has control of the ball, and the ball or a member of the opposition has crossed the centre-line.
All the league rules are here: http://www.londonbikepololeague.com/rules/.
Rik’s report:
Black Rebel Vs Malice
first game 1-3
BL – Dan (10:50)
Malice – Andy (8:20), Vidal (10:00, 13:50)
very equal game for the first half, Malice can’t make the goal agaisn Roxy that sit very strong in goal, Dan miss some good oportunities, until Andy open the score in the 8th minute. At the end Vidal score another 3, one been anulated for been too high (some polemic at this point), and Dan one.

This from Rupert, who refereed the game:
3, 2, 1, POLO! (loud)
A predictable sprint start from Yorgo followed by an even more predictable smack it into the top left hand corner. Zombie collected around the Apples goal, Mike got into position and BAM 1-0! Zombie retreat to their goal, Apples regroup, they looked miffed. Gabes and Em took it up court, interplay ensued, 1 minute and 46 seconds later Em leveled the score line 1-1. Zombie restart play, they take it up court, Apple intercept, passes between Em and Gabes push play into the back left hand corner behind zombies goal. Gabes follows Em into the corner, a Zombie is drawn in, Em breaks back into open field with the ball, he rides across the apex of the D, another Zombie lunges towards the ball, Emilie, in a moment of polo enlightenment, pushes it around the undead, picks it up on the offside and flicks it across goal (YES ACROSS GOAL) it hits the far post mid height(YES I KNOW) makes a gorgeous ‘polo sound’ and goes in.
